The month of September registered for the hotel sector in Yucatan an average occupancy rate of 48 percent, which was one percentage point higher than the same period in 2022.

Merida, Yucatan, October 21, 2023.- In September hotel occupancy in Merida reached 51 percent and in the rest of the state 48 percent, placing the state capital as the first place in demand for hospitality services.

The president of the Asociación Mexicana de Hoteles en Yucatán, A.C. (AMHY), Juan José Martín Pacheco pointed out that this figure represented one percentage point less than in the same month of the previous year when it reached 49 percent, while in the case of the other municipalities it decreased by 8 percent.

In the month of September, he said, the Yucatan capital was the destination that showed the greatest increase in hotel occupancy, with respect to the same period in 2022, as it went from 49 percent to 51 percent, averaging 48 percent in the state as a whole.

He specified that after Merida, the beaches were the site with the highest percentage, with a report of 35.60 percent, followed by Valladolid with 27.39 percent; Izamal, 27.36 percent and Chichen Itza with 14.22 percent.

Juan José Martín Pacheco explained that in order to obtain the figures a sampling was carried out in 87 hotels in the state with 5,449 rooms, of which 60 are in Mérida with 4,665 rooms and 27 lodging centers with 784 rooms in the rest of the municipalities.

The president of the AMHY, A.C., emphasized that Merida continues to be the favorite destination for tourists arriving in Yucatan, since it is where hotel occupancy shows the highest figure, a situation that reflects the dynamism that currently maintains tourism activation in the state.

“We are entering the last stretch of the year, which should be better, because it is time for important events such as the Janal Pixan, the X`Matkuil fair and the Christmas holidays, which boost hotel occupancy, mainly in Merida, but also in other destinations such as Valladolid and Izamal,” said the business leader.

Finally, he affirmed that the hotels in Yucatan are prepared to close the year well, and end 2023 with very positive numbers, which will leave an economic spill to the affiliates, as well as other sectors that are linked to the hotel business.
