SEDENA to send plane to repatriate Mexicans tourists who remain in Israeli territory

The Mexican Government will send a Mexican Air Force (FAM) plane on a humanitarian aid and rescue mission to repatriate Mexican nationals trapped by the war between Israel and Palestine.

The aircraft will take off from the facilities of the Military Air Base (BAM) number 1, located in Santa Lucia, in Zumpango, State of Mexico, bound for Israel, at 10:00 a.m. this Monday.

Since Friday, when attacks by the Islamist group Hamas began in the Gaza Strip, groups of Mexican tourists from Campeche, Nayarit, Guanajuato and San Luis Potosí have requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) to intervene to help them leave the conflict zone.

In response, the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) provided a FAM aircraft to establish the air bridge for the humanitarian aid and rescue mission. It is a FAM Boeing 737-800, one of those sent last year to Bucharest, Romania, in the rescue mission for Mexicans affected by the war in Ukraine.

The plane, registration number 3528, was loaded with humanitarian aid at the Military Passenger Terminal of the Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA) for take-off at 10:00 a.m. this Monday.

Sedena sources consulted informed that this flight is expected to repatriate 142 nationals, among them seven athletes, four of them belonging to the Mexican Army.

The scheduled route for the FAM Boeing 737-800 will be a first stopover in Gander, Canada; from there to Karen airport, Ireland; Anatolia, Turkey and finally Tel-Aviv, Israel.

It was indicated that after 12:00 noon on Monday another similar aircraft will be scheduled to depart for the operation to help and rescue Mexicans stranded in Israel.
