The National Union of Workers of the Ministry of Health (Sntsa) considered a “reckless act” by resident doctors (who were trapped), the mechanical failure in one of the cargo elevators of the Yucatán Regional High Specialty Hospital. (Hraepy), which occurred last Thursday, October 26th.
Likewise, he ruled out that the problem had arisen due to lack of maintenance, although he indicated that he would wait for the result of the hospital’s opinion.
“It was reckless on the part of the resident doctors since 15 entered the elevator when it does not support more than eight people. The weight of all of them was more than a ton, so the elevator did not hold up,” said Pedro Leal Abrego, general secretary of Section 100 of the union.
He added that “they received a warning to avoid doing so, but they did not listen. The elevator’s harness broke and it was held by the safety harness. None of them had serious injuries, just minor bruises.”
According to a statement issued by the hospital last Thursday, October 26, no person was seriously injured and all were treated and evaluated by hospital doctors.
It was reported that the Civil Protection and Safe Hospital team “acted quickly and effectively to guarantee the safety of the affected people.”
“It was reckless on the part of the residents who entered an elevator, exceeding its capacity. Plus, they were jumping inside. Fortunately, it only suddenly collapsed from one floor to another and they were trapped for about an hour. They were rescued without any major problems. There were no injuries; “There was no unionized colleague among them,” the leader noted.
It was found out that the residents who suffered minor injuries remained in continuous admission to the hospital, where they were provided with care and were subsequently sent to another hospital that provides them with social security, for the employment disability process for those who required it.
