Actress Jennifer Barlow was enjoying her vacation in the Bahamas when a simple cut while shaving caused a rare flesh-eating bacteria to come into contact with her skin in the sea, resulting in a serious infection.

This was explained by the actress on her social media channels months ago. Barlow shared an image on her Instagram profile, where she detailed everything that had happened to her five months ago. In this post, we can see a snapshot of her on the beach in the Bahamas and another one intubated in the hospital. She wrote, “I want to share my story about my near-death experiences along the way. How it has been to relearn how to be human and the loneliness that comes with living in a hospital for five months.”

After five months of complete silence, the actress has reappeared in various local media outlets, where she talked about the terrible moment she went through. According to the actress’s account, the flesh-eating bacteria began to act very quickly on her leg. Barlow described how her knee began to swell and was extremely hot, making it difficult for her to walk.

Days later, her younger brother found her unconscious on the kitchen floor and decided to take her to the hospital. After assessing her condition, doctors identified the bacteria causing her health problems and decided that the best course of action was to amputate her leg.

Jennifer Barlow stated that since that moment, she has been in mourning but agrees with the medical decision. She declared, “My disability has made me stronger as a person.” Additionally, the American actress has initiated a crowdfunding campaign to cover the cost of a prosthetic limb.

The actress also revealed that she had to undergo a total of 33 surgeries to remove all the damaged tissue. She stated, “When I woke up, it looked like a zombie leg. It was as if a dog had taken over it. There was nothing left,” emphasizing that the intervention undoubtedly saved her life.
