Family of Mexican Orion Hernandez request his release from Hamas

Family and friends of Mexican citizen Orion Hernandez Rodeux, who is currently being held hostage by the Palestinian group Hamas, have called on the insurgent organization for his release.

They also urged President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador to pay attention to this case and intercede somehow.

We are making a direct plea to the Hamas group so that they know forcefully that Orion is a native of Tepoztlán, a businessman who is dedicated to making known the riches and art of Mexico. I call on them to deliver him to us safely, he is a tourist, apolitical, he has no idea of all the mess that was unleashed to start this war’, declared Gabriel de la Fuente, a friend of the family.

“We are begging the President, just as he does for other cases, to pay a little attention to this specific case. We are not exempt from a tragedy despite we are just tourists”, De la Fuente stated.

Dedicated to promoting and selling Huichol art in different destinations in Europe, the young man used to travel and took the opportunity to attend the ‘Festival for Peace’, where members of the Hamas group broke in last Saturday, October 7th. His sentimental partner, German Shani Louk, a young tattoo artist, was killed during the attack.

‘He went to an electronic music festival and, unfortunately, as a tourist, he had no notion of what was happening in the Gaza Strip; obviously it took him and his wife by surprise, it was very sad to be watching the news and at the same time the social networks and also to see his partner, who was recognized by her mother because of the tattoos and her hairstyle,’ he said.

Sergio Hernandez, the father of the young man, is a restauranteur businessman, who a year and a half ago decided to go to live in Chile, where his wife and twin daughters are from; while his mother lives in Tepoztlan, Morelos, and his brother Dalai, in Tulum, Quintana Roo.

He has a newborn baby girl in Mexico, who is waiting for him, as well as his family, and his friends and that is what we want, that they help us spread the word so that the Hamas group gets to know that he is a Mexican, that he is a tourist, as they can corroborate, and that he has suffered enough”, highlighted De la Fuente.

According to Gabriel, the family members have not had a response from the Government regarding the support they are requesting.

‘The family is not in Mexico, they are in Chile and Tulum, it is up to me to see Orion, as a friend, he is like a brother to me, as we have always treated each other as brothers; more and more people are joining and are interested in this terrible case, people has expressed their support in the group #TodosSomosOrion in social networks.

‘He already went through a very bad time because, as far as we know, his wife was shot in front of him; and he was kidnapped, and now he is being held as a hostage’, De la Fuente continued.

‘We make a resounding call for them to take pity on him and release him; it is going to be a very grateful gesture for us Mexicans, who love our culture, craftsmanship, and its people’, he concluded.
