The Municipality of Merida announced that the En Bici program will be free of charge until December to continue promoting healthy habits, care for the environment and support the economy of Yucatecan families.
Likewise, the municipality announced that it is working together with the Government of the State of Yucatan to improve urban mobility by offering a real, sustainable and healthy alternative for everyone.
The extension until December 31, 2023 of the free En Bici program will allow students and workers to have this option to travel between stops to get to school or work.
The City Hall informed that in the last months the use of bicycles has increased, achieving that from May to date 63 thousand 836 people have used this service, which have traveled 121 thousand 592 kilometers in 87 thousand 267 trips.
He also pointed out that 54.3 percent of the users are between 14 and 28 years old, followed by 35 percent between 29 and 46 years old, 8.4 percent between 47 and 58 years old, while 2.2 percent are between 59 and 77 years old.
“This program has a great acceptance among citizens, especially now that we all want a friendlier mobility with the planet, therefore, we continue the analysis to place this service in strategic points where there is greater concentration of people, as in Ciudad Caucel or the subdivisions Las Americas, Los Heroes, without leaving aside the school zones and universities,” he mentioned.
The average number of new users per month is between 4,000 and 5,000 people, he added, and we register an average of 362 active users per day with an estimated time of use of 50 minutes.
He also recalled that to ensure that users have all the necessary protection measures when enjoying the benefits of the “En Bici” program, the City of Merida developed a digital QR scheme to monitor the 300 units that are in the 53 stations distributed throughout the city.
Finally, he added that this program is part of the Declaration Mérida 2050 “Working Together”, which was signed between the City Hall and the State Government, which included the implementation of a mobility alternative that benefits those who are interested in moving by bicycle, connect with any route of the public transportation system or contribute to take care of the environment of the Municipality.
