Local business group supports the fight against breast cancer in Yucatan

Within the framework of the International Day to Fight Breast Cancer, a series of events and actions were carried out to raise awareness among the Yucatecan population about the timely detection of this disease.

Novedades Yucatan stands in solidarity on this day. For this reason, like the Government and Municipal Palaces, as well as the Monument to the Homeland and other public and private buildings, the offices of this publishing house were illuminated in pink.

This as a show of support for women who fight a battle against this disease that each year claims the lives of more than 7,800 women in the country, and nearly 100 in the State, according to statistical data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

This demonstrates the importance of early detection of this condition through periodic personal check-ups, including gynecological check-ups every six months to have an adequate diagnosis and achieve timely treatment, which is key to achieving recovery from this disease, as it is estimated that 90 percent of cases, early detection plays an important role.

For this same reason, the Tócate Foundation gave an awareness talk yesterday morning to the members of the Mexican Association of Business Women of Yucatán AC (Ammeyuc) to encourage them to carry out periodic self-examinations to learn the appropriate techniques to detect any change in their bodies and replicate this information to all the close and important women in their lives.

It should be noted that so far in 2023, 360 cases of breast cancer have been detected in Yucatán, 354 corresponding to women and six to men.

In the same period, last year 342 were diagnosed, that is, this year it has had 18 more cases than last year, a 5 percent increase, but even so the entity registers the lowest rates of this pathology.

The State is one of the entities with the lowest incidence in the area of Malignant Breast Tumor. The first place is occupied by Jalisco, with 3,572 cases this year, followed by Mexico City (CdMx) with 1,971 detections.
