Quintana Roo stood out as the state with the highest increase in the industrial sector in the country in June. This growth was driven by the construction sector and large public and private projects, with an amazing annual increase of 231%.

Data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) shows that the Mexican Caribbean also reported the highest monthly variation compared to the previous month (May), reaching 20 percentage points.

The industrial boom in Quintana Roo began in February when the federal government initiated the construction of the Tren Maya in its 7th section and started building Tren Maya stations. In the first quarter, the installation of other mega-projects began, such as the Quintana Roo Park in Chetumal and the Nichupté Bridge in Cancún.

As a result, the Quintana Roo construction industry moved from the 17th position to the second in terms of its contribution to the national level, accounting for 0.80%.

Mining also reported significant increases, with an annual percentage change of 21.4%, the third highest in the country.

Even in other areas where the Mexican Caribbean has historically shown low numbers, such as the generation, transmission, distribution, and commercialization of electric energy, there was a positive balance of 21.6% in June of this year, compared to June 2022.

Regarding the manufacturing industry, while Quintana Roo did not perform as well with an annual percentage change of 5.8%, it is significantly lower than the national average of 19%.

The top five states with the highest annual growth in the industry (June 2023 vs. June 2022) are as follows:

  • – Quintana Roo: 231.1%
  • – Oaxaca: 53.5%
  • – Tabasco: 18.1%
  • – Puebla: 16.1%
  • – Durango: 15.6%
