The Museo de la Luz de Mérida received on Wednesday night the first office furniture for its different spaces, with which it is preparing for its next inauguration and opening to the public, although there is still no concrete date.

“There is no date, we don’t know when it opens, for now the public is not allowed,” said the private guard who controls the only access to this property which is part of the Gran Parque La Plancha.

Two cargo trucks arrived from Mexico City with a load of office furniture, filing cabinets, credenzas, and benches for public areas, but the sophisticated high-tech equipment that will bring to life everything related to the science of light, which is the central objective of this new museum being built by the UNAM in Mérida, has not yet arrived.

A “symbol of corruption

The building, as reported, is located on the corner of 50th and 43rd streets, and is already a symbol of corruption that has led to the dismissal of several commanders, although the investigation focused on the general director of Science Dissemination, who headed the project, César Augusto Domínguez Pérez-Tejeda.

It is said that Domínguez Pérez-Tejeda has already been removed from his post, precisely because of irregularities in the handling of the budget destined for the Museum of Light, of around $100 million pesos.

In Mérida, there is no director or spokesperson for the Museo de la Luz, so it is not possible to confirm the date of its opening, the progress in its equipment, the cost of access, and the activities programmed for the day of its inauguration.

The only thing that the museum’s official website announces is an exhibition called “colorEnMx” and “colorMérida” sponsored by the Telefónica Movistar Foundation. In other words, the Museum will not offer the magic of science and the history of light at its opening.

Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal announced the inauguration of La Plancha Park on November 19, which will be attended by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who will preside over the opening ceremony, even though the recreational work is not completely finished.
