The Green Party, criticized for usurping the environmental cause for decades, formalized its support for Claudia Sheinbaum as its candidate in the 2024 presidential elections.

ANIMAL POLITICO.- Dressed in green and surrounded by the controversial leaders of the PVEM, Claudia Sheinbaum yesterday sealed her political alliance with the party founded 30 years ago by Jorge González Torres; the controversial group from which, in 2015, Morena demanded that its registration be withdrawn.

The UNAM scientist, former Secretary of the Environment in the capital government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2000-2006), formalized her alliance with the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico , which more than distinguished itself for having promoted a defense policy in Mexico of the environment has taught itself with electoral alliances that have allowed it to increase its power and prerogatives.

Sheinbaum Pardo’s environmental career highlights his consulting in this area before the World Bank and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), his work with Mario Molina, Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry, and his work in the Mexican capital. to combat environmental contingencies.

In contrast, the Green Party has few green achievements to boast . The party has defended the death penalty and the expansion of open-pit mining exploration in protected natural areas and, in 2009, the PVEM was expelled from the grouping of environmental parties of 32 countries.
