The city council of Mérida inaugurated a new edition of the Camino de Flores dedicated to commemorating Janal Pixan with a call to care for the environment and the preservation of our Mayan traditions and roots.
In this activity framed in the Festival de las Ánimas 2023, local authorities highlighted that this edition aims to preserve our identity and traditions, in addition to promoting care for the environment. The floral exhibition can be visited from October 25 to November 12 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the Pasaje de la Revolución.
Likewise, it was reported that through the vegetation and the audiovisual and lighting installation, the aim is to represent different elements of the Yucatecan and Mexican tradition in this route that is divided into two main areas: the Janal Pixan (Yucateco Altar) and the Day of the Dead ( Mexican Altar), while recognizing the craftsmanship of 100 collaborators of the City Council who created this work of art.
“In this ‘floral mat’, located in the Passage of the Revolution next to the Cathedral Church, 10 sculptures of souls, catrinas, alebrijes, and altars are presented. Among the flower plants, petunias, kalanchoes, and cempazuchitl of different colors and flower shapes and lattices are exhibited; In addition, there are foliage such as alternantheras, ferns, camilas, marianas, moses cribs, among others,” explained Renán Barrera, mayor of Mérida.
For his part, Collado Soberanis explained that the route is divided into two areas, which are the Hanal Pixan with a minimalist color palette with the presence of orange and white and consisting of regional elements and vegetation.
In the second part is the Day of the Dead with the wide presence of colors such as orange, Mexican pink, purples, blues and greens. In this section there are alebrijes, catrinas – papel picado.
Likewise, he explained that through lighting and the use of technology, such as holographic fans, the space comes to life when night falls. The floral display also contains sound and aromatic ambiance.
On the tour, Renán Barrera and the authorities admired the plant sculptures with the theme of Life and Death through the sculptures of the Vegetal Tunnel, Catrín, Colibrí, Alebrije, Altar de Mascotas and the Natural Tunnel.
It is worth mentioning that on weekends additional activities will be carried out in the exhibition area in order to attract a greater number of visitors, such as concerts by young local singer-songwriters, a pet altar (along with an adoption space) and audiovisual activation. .
