At the Morelia International Film Festival, Willem Dafoe says “he stands in solidarity with SAG-AFTRA”

The 21st edition of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) kicked off today at the Mariano Matamoros Theater, where the special guests of this film festival paraded down the red carpet. One of the most beloved was the actor from Appleton, Wisconsin, Willem Dafoe.

The audience gathered behind the fences gave the actor one of the warmest welcomes, shouting his name at the top of their lungs, and to thank them, the “Spiderman” co-star signed T-shirts, photos, and anything else they presented him with, which generated even more furor.

Although sources close to the FICM organization assured that Dafoe would not attend interviews, he made an exception, mainly to thank the reception he received in the Michoacán capital, but also to show solidarity with his colleagues, as he is a member of SAG-AFTRA.

“I’m happy to return to Morelia, I’ve been here on two other occasions, I’m always happy when I come to Mexico,” said the actor. Next Sunday Willem will receive FICM’s Award for Artistic Excellence: “It’s wonderful, it’s a very generous gesture that makes me even happier to return,” he added.

From minute one on June 14, the Hollywood acting union went on strike, with Fran Drescher at the head, even today she rejected the proposals made by George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, Emma Stone, Ben Affleck, and Tyler Perry, among others, to pay the union 150 million dollars.

Although he is somewhat reluctant to talk about the subject and prefers to withdraw as soon as he hears the question of his opinion of the situation of his colleagues, Dafoe clarified that he is not promoting any film on this occasion at FICM, due to the fact that as part of the Union, he is prohibited from doing so, but that he supports the negotiations.

“I am a member of the union and we are on strike,” he said without losing his smile and just like everyone else in Hollywood he will wait patiently for the parties involved to find the necessary processes and negotiations to end this situation. “I will be happy to go back to work when the conditions are right,” he emphasized.

Tonight Abasolo Street, at number 72, was visited by personalities such as Bárbara Mori, accompanied by her partner Fernando Rovzar, as well as director Michel Franco, who tomorrow will present his film “Memory”, alongside Jessica Chastain, in addition to the presence of Miguel Bosé.

On October 23, the Spaniard will present a special screening of “Tacones Lejanos,” a 1991 film directed by Pedro Almodóvar. Prior to the screening, Miguel will talk with FICM president Alejandro Ramírez and director and cinematographer Victoria Clay-Mendoza.

During his visit to the screening, Bosé was very cheerful and joking, so much so that he assured that “my legs are still as beautiful as they were back then. On a more serious note, the Panama-born Bosé ruled out a return to film at some point in his career: “It’s very difficult for me, I’m more of a musician.
