On Friday night, an armed group, allegedly composed of ejido members affiliated with Rogelio Hernández Gómez, committed violence in the municipality of Altamirano, Chiapas. This group set fire to over 29 homes belonging to members of the municipal council of Altamirano.
The episode of violence did not stop at residences, as it also extended to the burning of vehicles, businesses, and other property owned by collaborators and supporters of the municipal council. Even the house of the council president, María García, was consumed by the flames.
In addition, it is unofficially reported that several people have been kidnapped, but their relatives have not yet reported these incidents to the authorities out of fear of reprisals.
This conflict escalated following the release of the former municipal president, Roberto Pinto Kanter, according to initial reports. Among those mentioned as possible instigators of the violence are Enrique Hernández Gómez, Gaspar Santiz, and Simeón Sánchez, who, according to information, are mobilizing ejido members to attack municipal councilors.
The residents of Altamirano, concerned about the violence that has affected their community, are urgently requesting the intervention of the authorities to restore peace and security in the region. They also fear that these events could lead to more violent incidents in the municipal seat.
On another note, on September 28, a joint force of 800 elements from the Army, the National Guard, the Attorney General’s Office, and the Chiapas Police was deployed to the southern border of the country to confront the presence of organized crime groups that had blocked roads in the municipalities of Frontera Comalapa, La Trinitaria, and Chicomuselo during the previous weekend.
The Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) stated that its main objective is to inhibit the activities of organized crime, guarantee freedom, order, and public peace, and allow the population to continue their daily activities without fear.
