President Andrés Manuel López Obrador explained on Tuesday why the Mexican government has not “taken sides” in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
This, following the attacks after the terrorist attacks by the Hamas group and the ‘claim’ of the Israeli embassy in Mexico, which regretted that AMLO’s administration has not taken a “more energetic” stance in the face of the crimes committed against Israeli civilians.
During the morning press conference, the president said that, by constitutional mandate, Mexico is a pacifist country, which advocates for human rights.
“The Israeli ambassador to Mexico says that she is not in agreement with our position. She has every right to say so, to express it, because we are free; we respect the government of Israel, but we do not want war. We are pacifists, we do not want the loss of life of any human being of any nationality, be it Israelis or Palestinians,” he said at the National Palace.
“I have to adjust to the principles that are in the Constitution. Our respect and condolences to the people of Israel, and our respect and condolences to the Palestinian people,” he added.

The head of the Executive read Article 89 of the Constitution, which states that the Executive is responsible for ‘directing’ the country’s foreign policy.
“We are in favor of peace, we do not consider that violence should be used; it is very clear the mandate of our Constitution regarding foreign policy: non-intervention, self-determination of peoples and peaceful settlement of disputes. That is our position, we do not want war, we do not want violence,” stated AMLO.
Finally, López Obrador said that he does not seek to polemicize with the Israeli ambassador in Mexico and that he showed the constitutional article so that the basis of Mexico’s position is known.

The first Mexican Air Force plane has landed in Tel Aviv to repatriate Mexicans seeking to leave Israel, confirmed the President.
The President stated that close to one thousand Mexicans have asked for help to return to our country.
