Abi Cruz becomes the first female Captain in the Secretariat of Citizen Security of Mexico City

After a decade of preparation and five years of service as captain, Abi Génesis Cruz Martínez has become the first woman to hold the position of Captain Cóndor in the Secretariat of Citizen Security of Mexico City in the last 45 years.

“I am extremely grateful for this opportunity; from the moment they informed me that I would join their team of pilots, I felt immense pride. This achievement has been a goal I have pursued since the beginning of my career,” said Abi Génesis Cruz Martínez in an interview with Sputnik. The pilot is originally from Acapulco.

Abi Génesis Cruz Martínez is a graduate of the Mexican Aviation School, with a specialization in helicopters, and holds the necessary certifications to operate Bell 412, 407, and 429 helicopters. These helicopters are used to provide support in emergency situations and to transport patients to hospitals in Mexico City.

“Providing assistance to people in need, especially in moments that require rapid medical attention, can mean the difference between life and death. It is a job of great importance,” emphasized the 29-year-old.

The Cóndores Division of the Secretariat of Citizen Security was founded in 1971 with two helicopters that provided aerial surveillance in the city. Currently, in addition to providing aerial surveillance, they also offer pre-hospital medical care and support in disaster situations such as earthquakes, floods, and fires.
