Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal kicked off the construction of the Centro-Facultad de Ingeniería section of the Ie-Tram, a 100% electric transportation project, the only one of its kind in Latin America, which continues to advance in our state.

Next to the Gran Parque La Plancha, at the intersection of 50th Street and 37th Street, the Governor gave the flag that marked the beginning of the works of this new stage of the “Va y Ven” transportation system plan, which consists of the habilitation of 12.8 kilometers of route, which goes from this point of the city to the Anillo Periférico, at the height of the Engineering Faculty of the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán (UADY).

It should be remembered that the Ie-Tram will transform mobility in the state by connecting Merida, Uman and Kanasin, and linking more than 137 neighborhoods, 80 existing routes and 20 tourist points; it will be the first electric tram in southeastern Mexico, with modern vehicles that offer all the benefits of a streetcar, with the flexibility of a bus.

Low-carbon concrete is being used for this work, reducing emissions by the equivalent of 14 trees planted and growing for 10 years or taking 67 cars out of circulation for every 6 cubic meters used.

The work to be carried out consists of preliminary works, earthworks, paving, vertical and horizontal signage. Sidewalks and curbs, LED street lighting, drainage and electrification works, power supply for bus stops and traffic lights.

Before the Mayor of Merida, Renan Barrera Concha, and the federal deputy, Cecilia Patrón Laviada, the director of the Yucatan Highway Infrastructure Institute (INCAY), Sergio Augusto Chan Lugo, indicated that this is the second section, since the first one, which starts at La Plancha towards Kanasín and the Tren Maya terminal in Teya, has been completed, where only the last details of mobility and roadways are being attended to.

With the Ie-Tram, users will travel in innovative 100% electric units, with zero emissions, which will reduce noise pollution, in addition to the fact that the carbon dioxide they absorb is equivalent to over 170,000 trees planted over 10 years.

Its route will consist of 100 kilometers, in 5 high demand routes, which will connect the first square of Merida with the Engineering Faculty of the Autonomous University of Yucatan (UADY), Uman, Kanasin, Poxila and Teya, with paths for public transportation and urban mobility.

This project is getting closer to becoming a reality for the people of Yucatan, with a total investment of 2.82 billion pesos, of which 60% will be provided by the State, 23% by the Federation, and 16% by the private sector, a budget that includes the units, road and electrical infrastructure, with adjustments to the route and the Historic Center.
