Young indigenous student receives college degree wearing pre-Hispanic headdress and clothing

07/09/2023 Mexico City.- A huge headdress made with feathers, a loincloth and Aztec bells on his ankles (also known as ayoyotes) was the gala costume that Holcan Mattero chose to officially receive his degree as a Biochemical Engineer at Tecnológico Nacional de México, in the country’s capital.

The young man shared this moment on his TikTok account and the images quickly went viral because thousands of people shared the video, which you can see in this link.
“I am graduating as a Biochemical Engineer. Resisting a social and cultural backwardness of 500 years”, was the message that Holcan posted in a first video that already has more than 4.7 million views.

The young man chose Mexica clothing to highlight his indigenous roots and this decision was applauded by thousands of Internet users.

Holcan describes himself on his social networks as a Mexica actor and cultural disseminator.
In a second video, the young engineer boasted his title and posted the message “United we are a stronger voice. This one goes for you”.

On his Instagram account, Holcan shares images of his participation in cultural events such as the National Festival of Art and Culture or the celebration of the 698th anniversary of the founding of Mexico.
