The Network of Women and Men for a Public Opinion with a Gender Perspective in Campeche A.C. will provide training to teachers and parents to address the problem of violence, through the project called “Strengthening the Model of Intervention in Education for Peace and Positive Conflict Resolution in the Municipalities of Calakmul and Hopelchén”.
Reyna Estela Reyes Melo, Project Coordinator, commented that the three years of racialized work allowed in the first instance the identification of violence that in some way affects minors, as well as the tools to indicate to teachers, directors, parents and family members the way in which they can detect cases, as well as the routes to follow to file complaints or find possible solutions.
She explained that at first they worked with around 320 children in two schools in Calakmul and Hopelchén, from which 200 promoters emerged. He added that, of the total number of minors, 60 percent were found to be living in a situation of violence at home. He explained that, although they did not find cases of sexual abuse, they seek to provide family members and educational personnel with the tools to be able to do so.
We noticed a community environment with a lot of family violence and that triggers other types of violence, so what we want is to continue working because there are also things that are not talked about in the family nuclei, such as the issue of sexual violence in children,” she said.
She explained that 30 people will be trained, including teachers, parents and caregivers, who will form the conflict resolution groups, and 28 teachers from communities belonging to these two municipalities were previously trained.
