A tragedy unfolded during the performance of Russian trapeze artist Maria Smetanova when the 23-year-old fell from a height of approximately 10 meters while performing her act in front of dozens of spectators at the circus where she was performing. The moment was captured by one of the attendees and the recording quickly went viral on social media.
The act of the young woman from Russia seemed to be going smoothly. She was suspended at about 10 meters in height, surprising the audience, who watched in anticipation and silence. However, something went wrong.
Maria Smetanova was sitting on the trapeze, with her head toward the ground, moving her feet high in the air. It was when, apparently, the young woman attempted to turn around and failed to hold onto the trapeze, plummeting to the ground.
In the few seconds that the trapeze artist fell, circus enthusiasts screamed as the young woman struck the ground without any protection, hitting her head and part of her neck.
Immediately, a man, presumed to be the circus presenter, rushed to see what had happened to the young Russian trapeze artist who remained motionless and unconscious on the ground.
The man assisting the woman reportedly called for emergency personnel because the young woman did not respond after the fall.
Following the fall, the Russian trapeze artist was rushed to the emergency room at a hospital, where medical personnel determined that she had suffered a skull fracture and brain injuries as a result of the accident.
Reports indicate that the young woman was also diagnosed with a concussion and a broken arm.
After the accident, the circus management refunded the ticket money to the spectators who had witnessed the acrobat’s accident.
