To promote the economic development of families in the neighborhoods of Mérida, Mayor Renán Barrera Concha is encouraging the creation of new distribution, marketing, and sales channels for products made with honey.
During the inauguration of the First Honey Festival held in Plaza Grande, the Mayor emphasized that the development of new commercial strategies aimed at the families of the neighborhoods, such as this First Honey Fair, complements the Support for Productive Projects program, which provides credits and supplies to support economic activities.
He recalled his visit to the Yaxnic neighborhood in May to attend the “World Bee Day” celebration, where he pledged to create a fair that would allow honey producers to market derivative products such as soaps, cosmetics, and syrups, among others.
He also mentioned that the planning of this first Honey Fair was guided by the Municipal Entrepreneurship Center, which provided training for designing attractive marketing strategies for potential buyers.
Accompanied by producers, the Director of Social Development, María José Cáceres Delgado, the Director of Economic Development and Tourism, José Luis Martínez Semerena, the Mayor cut the inaugural ribbon and visited the booths of the participants to greet them and see the products on display.
The fair featured the sale of honey candies, syrups, creams, soaps, cosmetic products like lipsticks and eye creams, multivitamins, wax, shampoo, conditioner, pollen, royal jelly, and propolis.
Regarding the first Honey Fair, María Anselma Pech Tzab, a melipona honey producer from the Dzoyaxche neighborhood for the past 13 years, expressed gratitude to the Mayor for keeping his promise to create the Honey Fair.
