Rainy week expected for the Yucatan Peninsula

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) informed that a low pressure channel in the Gulf of Mexico and the southeast of the country, instability in high levels of the atmosphere and the entrance of humidity from the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea, will bring showers and heavy rains with electric discharges and gusts of wind over the Yucatan Peninsula.

The federal agency pointed out that, during the beginning of the week, a new tropical wave will cross the Yucatan Peninsula, the southeast and south of the national territory, it is expected to be associated with a low pressure center that will develop south of the coasts of Chiapas and Oaxaca.

He added that these conditions will generate strong to very strong rains in the southeastern regions and the Yucatan Peninsula, forecasting heavy rains in Guerrero, Oaxaca, Chiapas and Tabasco.


This Monday, a hot to very hot day is expected, with a medium cloudy to mostly cloudy sky and the potential for showers in the afternoon and evening, with winds from the east and northeast.

Likewise, minimum temperatures are expected to be between 23 degrees to 26 degrees at dawn and maximum temperatures are expected to be between 32 degrees to 34 degrees on the coast, between 33 degrees to 35 degrees in the city of Merida and between 34 degrees to 36 degrees in the rest of the state.

It is also expected a thermal sensation between 47 degrees to 49 degrees, a solar radiation of 1,100 to 1,200 watts/m2, an ultraviolet radiation of 11 to 12 units, a maximum humidity of 95 to 100 percent at dawn and a minimum humidity of 50 to 55 percent in the early afternoon.

According to the SMN, intervals of showers, possible electric discharges and wind gusts of up to 40 km/h are forecast for Monday morning.
