The Mexico City Secretary of Citizen Security, Omar García Harfuch, resigned with the purpose of seeking the candidacy to become the Head of the Government of Mexico City (CDMX).

Through his X account, formerly Twitter, the head of government, Martí Batres Guadarrama, announced the decision regarding García Harfuch’s resignation.

Mr. @OHarfuch visited me to inform me of his decision to resign as Secretary of Citizen Security of the @GobCDMX,” Batres informed on his official X account.

Garcia Harfuch arrived at the SSC CDMX in October 2019.

He was appointed head of the institution by the then head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum, replacing Jesus Orta.

The now ex-secretary of Citizen Security had to separate from his position before Sunday, September 10, the day the electoral process formally starts, as established by the Electoral Institute of Mexico City, in order to be able to participate in next year’s electoral process.

In accordance with Article 19 of the Code of Electoral Institutions and Procedures, those interested in participating as a candidate for the position of Head of Government must not hold public office until before the beginning of the electoral process.

On Saturday, September 9, Omar García Harfuch formalized to the Chief of Government his decision to resign from his position in the SSC.
