Municipal Police chase ends in tragedy in Ixil, Yucatán

Ixil, Yucatan, September 28, 2023.- Residents of this community reported that members of the Municipal Police collided with a motorcyclist who was trying to evade the officers following a report of domestic violence in a property not far from the place of the incident.

According to the facts, Samuel P., had a family argument with his sentimental partner, and strarted attacking her, when suddenly she was able to call 911, and the subject, upon seeing that he could be arrested, decided to flee the house on a motorcycle.

But on his way out, he met a patrol car, and when the local agents recognized him, they started a chase all the way out to the exit of Ixil on the road to Hacienda Too, shortly after 17:00 hours.

According to witnesses, the police vehicle blocked the motorcycle path, making it crash into the hillside. Apparently, the motorcyclist died instantly.

The villagers surrounded the pick-up truck and in fact a relative of the deceased hit a uniformed officer, mad at the actions of the policemen, who demonstrated their lack of training.

Citizens of Ixil blame the mayor Sandra Pech Chi who, according to them, does not monitor the actions of the municipal police officers and that there is a big problem with law enforcement in the municipality.

Apparently, the deceased, Samuel P., had a family problem and his wife called 911 when he was threatening her with a knife.

The man fled the scene on his motorcycle and ended up having a fatal accident while trying to escape the police vehicle that was in pursuit. The motorcycle went off the road and the driver hit his head against the rocks causing him fatal injuries.

SSP and FGE personnel arrived on the scene, and called the SEMEFO Forensics experts to pick up the body.
