Mexico’s Military College celebrates 200 years of service

Officially, the creation of the Mexican Army dates back to February 19, 1913, when Venustiano Carranza published the Decree establishing this noble and valiant military institution.

However, there is another historical reality about this military body, as it has several historical antecedents. These include the Insurgent Army, the Trigarante Army, or the National Army, among others, but all had the same purpose: to defend the national territory.

Telling the stories of the Mexican Army is to speak of the country itself, of its struggles, its relentless efforts to reconquer its homeland, to consolidate its independence and safeguard its freedom, as well as to forge an autonomous path.

This institution, made up of land and air military forces, is responsible for safeguarding the sovereignty of the Mexican state and national peace.

It has five missions:

  1. Defend the integrity, independence, and sovereignty of the nation
  2. Ensure internal security
  3. Assist the civilian population in cases of public needs
  4. Carry out civic actions and social projects that contribute to the country’s progress
  5. Provide assistance in case of disasters

This week, during a Solemn Session of the LXV Legislature of the State Congress, golden letters with the inscription “2023, Year of the Bicentennial of the Heroic Military College” were unveiled on the Honor Wall of the Official Venue of the Legislative Power, in commemoration of the foundation of this educational institution.

Since Monday, there has been a photographic exhibition titled “Heroic Military College, 200 Years of Loyalty to Mexico,” also in commemoration. It can be visited in the vestibule of the Congress of Aguascalientes and consists of nearly 60 chronological images that showcase some of the most outstanding events in its history and its legacy of honor, valor, loyalty, and national defense. According to reports, it was a challenging task to select these images from the extensive historical archive to summarize their significance.
