Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa anticipates new air routes and flights to Quintana Roo following Mexico’s regaining of Category 1 status in international air safety from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the United States. This achievement is expected to bring more jobs, increased investment, and new opportunities for shared prosperity.
Lezama Espinosa congratulated the Government of Mexico for this accomplishment. She stated, “We are very pleased because Mexico has regained Category 1 in International Air Safety. After a little over two years of negotiations with the International Aviation Organization and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, our country has received this welcome news.”
The governor emphasized that reclaiming this classification opens doors for continued growth and surpassing the number of visitors arriving in the region through flights from the United States. This, in turn, will enable the success of tourism to benefit everyone.
Mara Lezama noted that according to estimates from the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation, Jorge Nuño Lara, Mexico anticipates the opening of 50 new routes to the United States in the near future. This could potentially result in an increase of over 1 million passengers each year, with the majority having Quintana Roo as their preferred destination.
She estimated that with this news, the year 2024 will be spectacular, as it will continue to bring prosperity to all corners of the region, by air, sea, and land, as outlined in the new Agreement for Well-being and Development, ensuring that no one is left behind.
