Man dies after being struck by lightning while walking on a soccer field in Espita, Yucatan

ESPITA, Yucatan, September 19, 2023. – A man identified as Pedro Albino Huchim Batún, 34 years of age, lost his life instantly on a rainy Tuesday afternoon when he was struck by lightning while working on the “La sur 22” soccer field in this municipality.

Mother Nature’s fury once again claimed a life in the same place, as two years ago a young man of only 22 years of age died from the same cause.

In the tragic event of this day, it could be observed that next to the inert body was a pruning machine, which indicates that the deceased, who served as sports director of the current City Hall, was conditioning the field when he suffered the unfortunate incident.

Although an ambulance arrived at the field located at the exit to the Nacuché police station, the paramedics assessed the man, but all in vain, he had already departed to the afterlife.

The municipal authorities proceeded to secure the area before the eyes of the neighbors who were shocked and could not believe in a new tragic event.

Hours later, elements of the State Investigative Police arrived, who were waiting for the arrival of the personnel of the State Attorney General’s Office to take the necessary steps.

It should be noted that the fatal victim of that August 15, 2021, was helping to paint the field where a friendly match was to be held.

However, the second version was that it was a member of a Nacuché club who jumped onto the field to warm up and wait for the game to start, and was surprised by the powerful natural discharge.
