Mérida was filled with color, music, joy, and fun with a Grand Carnival Dance that marked the culmination of the “Algarabía Festival,” where 13 municipalities from Yucatán showcased their skill and tradition represented by the thousand dancers who performed in front of the Municipal Palace.
The City Council led by Renán Barrera Concha organized this second edition of the “Carnival Spirit,” a program of activities that serve as a prelude to the fun and joy that this administration has prepared for Yucatecan families and visitors who will attend the Mérida Carnival 2024.
The thousand Yucatecan dancers filled attendees with joy as they gathered at the Municipal Palace to enjoy this artistic and cultural event for the second time, which, through traditional dance and music, proudly represents the name of Mérida and Yucatán.
For this display, members of ballets from the municipalities of Hoctún, Seyé, Umán, Halachó, Oxkutzcab, Samahil, Tahmek, Hocabá, Kanasín, Acanceh, Ticul, Akil, and Yotholín participated.
The dance groups performed one by one in the traditional style of a vaquería, executing pre-programmed pieces. Later, the celebration turned into an open vaquería where all the groups together dressed up in festive colors, bringing life and color to the Plaza Grande of Mérida to the rhythm of the Super Poderosa Orchestra by Miguel Collí.
The event was attended by Councilor Alice Patrón Correa, Óscar Cambranes Basulto, executive secretary of the Carnival Permanent Committee, as well as the queens and kings of the Mérida Carnival 2024.
