A couple who posed as employees of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) will remain in preventive detention, accused of extortion because they demanded money in exchange for not cutting off the electricity of a business in Mérida.
Merida, Yucatan.- According to the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), the detainees are accused of demanding 300 thousand pesos in exchange for not cutting off the power at a local business.
Both individuals face charges of extortion and criminal association, after events happened last week.
In a hearing held at the Oral Justice Center of Mérida, the litigation prosecutors formulated the charges against E.A.P.M. and the woman K.I.C.M., to later present the evidence and request connection to proceedings for the crimes.
However, the accused resorted to the duplicity of the term to define their legal situation, so the Second Control Judge summoned the parties to continue the hearing on September 22.
According to the investigation, the FGE agent establishes that the events occurred on September 14, when the couple went to the business to try to collect 300 thousand pesos, which they had requested hours before posing as CFE employees.
They requested that amount of money with the argument that it would serve to avoid cutting off the electricity service and, in turn, avoid an alleged fine for alleged irregularities in the energy supply.
The prosecutors requested the preventive detention, which was granted by the judge for one month. The process against both detainees continued.
