Yucatán records 146 new cases of dengue, authorities maintain alert

With 1,241 cases of dengue so far in 2023, Yucatán concludes the 30th week recorded in the Epidemiological Outlook. Federal authorities reported that during the past week, 146 new cases were confirmed.

This recent addition brings the total to 1,241 infections in the state this year and places Yucatán second in Mexico for the highest number of cases of this virus, just below Quintana Roo, which has 1,656 cases.

The municipalities of Cuncunul and Santa Elena maintained the highest incidence of dengue infections, followed by Tekax and Celestún, which together account for 134 cases of dengue in the region.

Out of the total reported cases, 599 were classic dengue, 608 exhibited some warning signs, and 34 were classified as severe cases. Additionally, two confirmed deaths due to dengue have been reported in the state so far.

In response to this situation, local health authorities emphasized the need for stronger preventive measures to curb the spread of the disease.

In June, state authorities issued an alert to urge all citizens to be cautious due to the increasing dengue cases, advising them to keep their living spaces clean in order to prevent the proliferation of dengue mosquitoes.

To achieve this, they encourage turning over containers that can collect water, such as buckets, bottles, and tires, and using insecticides in homes to reduce the presence of mosquitoes.

Furthermore, it’s recommended to constantly monitor yards and gardens to prevent any water accumulation from becoming a potential mosquito breeding ground.
