Yucatán ranks as the second state nationwide in cases of dengue

The National Epidemiological Surveillance System (Sinave) reported another week with over 100 confirmed cases of dengue in Yucatán.

Based on figures from the federal agency, there are 151 new infections of this ailment, spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, bringing the total to 1,392 cases in the state so far this year. This also keeps Yucatán as the second state with the highest number of cases of this ailment.

At least 651 cases are common dengue, 705 exhibited warning signs, while 36 were severe cases. Additionally, the two reported deaths are still maintained, while four other deaths are under review.

The municipalities of Cuncunul and Santa Elena continue to have the highest incidence of dengue cases, while Tekax and Celestún are also on alert due to the high presence of cases in these areas.

With this, Yucatán has experienced almost 10 consecutive weeks with an increase in dengue presence among the population, a situation only surpassed by the state of Quintana Roo, which reported over 1,800 confirmed cases, ranking first nationwide.

Nationwide, there are a total of 8,291 cases of dengue in Mexico, according to Sinave, along with 13 deaths attributed to this cause.

Health authorities in Yucatán have initiated a strategy to strengthen actions against the mosquito transmitting dengue. This includes intensified fumigation in neighborhoods of Mérida and other municipalities with high infection rates.
