At least seven people have died, including a baby, as a result of Sunday’s Russian bombardment in two towns in the Ukrainian province of Kherson in the southern part of the country, announced Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klimenko. Among the deceased are a couple and their 23-day-old newborn. Russia, on the other hand, has reported the downing of three drones in the Kursk and Belgorod regions, both bordering Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the British Ministry of Defence claims in an intelligence report that the Wagner mercenary group, led by Russian businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin, is in the process of downsizing and reconfiguration, “essentially to save on salaries in a time of financial pressure,” as the Kremlin has likely ceased to be a source of funding. The document also asserts that due to Moscow’s dry spell, Prigozhin might set his sights on Belarus as a new benefactor.

On the 536th day of Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, here’s what has happened by 8:00 PM this Sunday, August 13:

A Russian military ship fires warning shots in the Black Sea at a cargo ship heading for Ukraine. The Russian Ministry of Defence has reported that one of its military vessels has fired warning salvos at a cargo ship heading for Ukraine in the Black Sea. According to Moscow, the cargo ship, flying the flag of the Republic of Palau, continued its route to a Ukrainian port after being inspected by the military personnel who hailed it.

Russia shoots down three drones in two regions bordering Ukraine. The Russian Ministry of Defence has reported that it has shot down at least three drones over the Russian provinces of Belgorod, where two of them were intercepted, and Kursk. Both are provinces bordering Ukraine. The interceptions occurred after 10:00 AM (in Spain) and did not cause any damage or casualties, as reported by Russian authorities.

The British Ministry of Defence states that the Kremlin no longer finances the Wagner mercenary group. The Wagner mercenary group, led by Russian businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin, is in the process of downsizing and reconfiguration because, probably, the Kremlin has ceased to be a source of funding. This is what the British Ministry of Defence asserts in its latest intelligence report, in which it suggests that Prigozhin might look towards Belarus as a patron.
