The State Civil Protection Unit reported that tropical depression number 10 has developed into Tropical Storm ‘Idalia’, which is located 132 km southeast of Cozumel and 232 km southeast of Yucatán.
In the upcoming hours, although it is moving eastward, it will shift slightly south and later gradually turn northward toward the Gulf of Mexico.
It is also expected to develop into a hurricane within the next 48 hours. Therefore, a Blue Alert is in effect for Yucatán.
Due to the proximity of Tropical Storm ‘Idalia’, the ports of San Felipe, Río Lagartos, Las Coloradas, and El Cuyo are closed to minor navigation until further notice.
Procivy warned that during Monday morning, light to moderate rain is expected over coastal and northeastern municipalities, from Progreso to Tizimín.
Later in the day, rain will intensify to become strong between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. over Río Lagartos, Tizimín, Buctzotz, Valladolid, Chemax, Temozón, and surrounding areas. In the rest of the state, rain will be light to moderate and scattered.
Between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., strong rain is expected again due to the passage of a cloud band over Tekax, Oxkutzcab, and surrounding areas, as well as the southern part of Mérida.
