A huge fire burned tons of used tires in a landfill in San Pedro Nohpat, near Mérida, where firemen battled the flames over three hours.

The fire occurred around 7:30 p.m. in the backyard of a plastics company, but the building was not damaged, only the piles of tires were the ones that caught fire.

Apparently the grounds keepers were burning garbage and the fire spread due to strong winds. The column of smoke could be seen from several kilometers away.

After receiving the fire report, several fire units arrived to the place to deal with the incident. After more than 3 hours the firefighters managed to control the fire.

Paramedics from the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) also attended, but no one was injured.

As we reported in another story, a few days ago a fire was recorded that devastated several wineries in the Non-Polluting Industries Park in the north of the city due to an alleged drill that got out of control.
