The Yucatan State Public Security Secretariat (SSP) reported that through its continuous surveillance to enforce regulations regarding the use of tinted windows on vehicles, they have removed tinted film from 19,407 vehicles and imposed fines on 1,437 drivers so far this year.

According to Article 66 of the Regulations of the State Traffic and Road Law, the circulation of vehicles with tinted windows is allowed as long as it is applied in a layer or film of HP or NR with a grade from 38 to 28. Similarly, the circulation of vans with factory-tinted glass is permitted.

The police conduct inspections to ensure that vehicles with tinted windows comply with the legal provisions.

Vehicle owners with Yucatan license plates and from other jurisdictions residing in the state are also obligated to comply with these regulations.

To verify the type of tint, SSP officers use electronic devices that measure the level of darkness of the windows.

State police officers have the authority to stop vehicles with tinted windows or other materials that obstruct visibility from the inside of the vehicle.

If the police unit conducting the stop does not have a measuring device, the presence of a Road Services unit equipped with one will be requested.

It is important to note that receiving a fine does not exempt drivers from further penalties if they continue to violate the regulations.

The Yucatan SSP has called on tinting service providers to only sell and install materials allowed by the law. They emphasized that it is crucial for both drivers and providers to adhere to current regulations in order to ensure road safety and compliance with the norms.
