Through a TikTok video, two Yucatecan young women share a ‘storytime’ about the time they were denied entry to “La Casa del Pastel” (The Cake House).

Before delving into the unfortunate experience they had at the place, the young women provided some context. They explained that “La Casa del Pastel” in Progreso has become quite famous in Yucatán. They even mentioned that they had been eager to explore it from the inside, but for various reasons, they hadn’t been able to visit until now.

One of the young women emphasized that the employees told them they couldn’t enter due to the dress code. They mentioned in their TikTok that the style required for entry is “casual elegant,” and they warned people who plan to visit not to go through the humiliation they experienced. The young woman stated, “We were denied entry because we didn’t have dresses, tennis shoes, or makeup.”

The younger sister of the young woman added that this situation “spoiled their mood.” They decided to opt for “an ‘azulito,'” a blue-colored drink with a blackberry flavor that’s usually made with curaçao or miguelito. They took this opportunity to promote the “micheladas” made by the younger sister, since she treated them well.

It’s worth mentioning that the young woman felt somewhat discriminated against. She believed that they were denied entry because they looked Yucatecan, and most of the clientele consisted of foreigners or national tourists.

“The staff at ‘La Casa del Pastel’ didn’t let us in because we weren’t wearing dresses, tennis shoes, and makeup, and because we seemed like ‘yucas’ [Yucatecans], mainly because all the tables were taken by tourists from outside, who clearly didn’t seem local.”

After sharing the video, instead of sparking controversy over the restaurant’s policies at “La Casa del Pastel” in Progreso, social media users praised the young women for their attitude and response to the incident.
