In light of the disappearance of five young men in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, the State Prosecutor’s Office reported that it will request the support of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) to clarify the case, since so far there are no reports on the possible causes of what happened.
This request has to do with the investigations carried out by the Jalisco authorities, since it is presumed that a criminal group could have participated in these events, according to the evidence collected. In other words, since it is related to the organized crime, it would be a federal matter that is the responsibility of the FGR.
This was announced by the General Strategic Security Coordinator, Ricardo Sánchez Beruben, at a press conference held on Tuesday, August 15, in which the progress of the investigations to locate the five missing young men was presented. The victims are Roberto Olmeda, Jaime Adolfo Martinez, Diego Alberto Lara, Dante Cedillo and Uriel Galvan.
“As part of the actions that will be taken in the face of this situation that occurred in Lagos de Moreno, we are going to request the request for attraction by the Attorney General of the Republic, since the indications that are available at the moment give the presumption of that there may be the participation of criminal groups,” the official reported.
Although the criminal group or groups that could be behind these events were not mentioned, it should be remembered that after the disappearance of the young people – all of them between the ages of 19 and 22 – a video was leaked that could be related to the case. In the clip, one of the missing men is allegedly observed being forced to attack one of his friends.
In the video appear the initials “MZ”, possibly referring to “Operativa MZ”, the group linked to the Sinaloa Cartel that performs security work for Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, leader of the criminal organization.
Before the video went public, the Jalisco authorities presented the material to the relatives of the missing young men. Some of them recognized their relatives, although the State Prosecutor’s Office has not confirmed their authenticity. Also, it has not been proven that the Sinaloa Cartel is involved in these events.
In addition to the video, a photograph that would have been taken moments before was leaked. The image shows a group of five young people kneeling, handcuffed, and with their mouths covered with duct tape. According to the graphic elements that can be observed, these individuals wear similar clothes to the one the friends were wearing at the time of their disappearance.
In addition to the leaks, during the search work, two vehicles belonging to the victims were located. One was a brown Volkswagen Jetta, owned by Diego Alberto, and the other was a sedan with license plates 881-RYL, which was located on the Encarnación de Díaz – Lagos de Moreno highway section.
In this second vehicle, the authorities found remains of possible human origin in the trunk, although they did not disclose the identity of the victim. It is expected that in the course of the next few days, the State Prosecutor’s Office will present more reports on the case since the location (dead or alive) of the five young men has not been verified.
