Sisal fishermen send letter to President López Obrador; demand compensation for damage to Madagascar reef

After a two-hour meeting, the head of the Ministry of Welfare, Joaquín Díaz Mena, and the Sisal fishermen reached an agreement to await the SEMARNAT report on environmental impact to determine the fine and compensation.

According to the Secretary, a call was made to the federal agency, which will provide a prompt response to the fishermen. He also mentioned that he had a conversation with the mayor of Hunucmá, who, according to him, will support them as needed. This was denied by the affected fishermen, who shouted “He’s lying!”

Likewise, Díaz Mena indicated that he would present a petition to the relevant authorities, so the more than 900 fishermen signed the agreement document.
