Relatives demand for justice for the murder of a young man in Veracruz

Fidel González, a 27-year-old young man, was killed by a friend in Yanga, Veracruz, and despite the crime being recorded, the perpetrator remains free.

Maria Isabel, his mother, recounted that on the morning of August 14, her son received a call from someone who asked him to come out of his house.

Fidel approached a car and after exchanging some words with the passengers, a man, who turned out to be one of his friends, got out and fatally shot him.

Despite the existence of a video and Maria Isabel identifying the culprit, the Veracruz Prosecutor’s Office ruled that there is not enough evidence to arrest the alleged perpetrator, so he remains at large.

“They killed my son right here at the door of my house, one of his own friends, one of those who used to come to my house since they were kids and he shot him… I heard the shots, I ran out, and he had already fallen,” she declared to a local media outlet.

According to preliminary versions, the crime may have occurred due to a romantic conflict with his girlfriend, who allegedly became involved with his friend.

On the night of August 14, Fidel’s partner allegedly called him to “make peace.”

Faced with the authorities’ inaction, Maria Isabel raised her voice on social media and sent a message to her son’s killer:

“Today, you extinguished the brightest star in my life. I saw you cold-bloodedly kill my son; I don’t understand why, when we always opened the doors of my house and our hearts to you, you were always welcome here and treated with affection,” the message reads.
