Progreso, Yucatán, August 7, 2023. Mayor Julián Zacarías Curi inaugurated the newly remodeled Progreso Sports Unit, accompanied by IDEY Director Carlos Saenz, Local Representative Erik Rihani, as well as councilors, directors, and invited sports teams.
High-performance athletes, the sports community, as well as the general public now have state-of-the-art and first-rate facilities. The Progreso Sports Unit has a gym and boxing ring, as well as ping pong tables, multi-purpose bathrooms with showers and dressing rooms, as well as two sets of bedrooms for athletes. The outdoor area of this unit has a CrossFit area, a soccer field, 2 children’s baseball fields, one basketball court, and a beach volleyball court; an amphitheater capable of holding 315 people, pet-friendly spaces, photographic spots, a small store, and parking for 120 vehicles.
The Casa de los deportistas (“House of Sportsmen”) is today a fact that benefits thousands of sportsmen and hundreds of families, which reflects the commitment that the administration of Julián Zacarías has to the development of local sports. Likewise, in his message, Mayor Zacarías mentioned “What you see now is only the first stage of this great project, very soon we will advance in a second stage that will include new spaces to add more sports disciplines that promote the sport of our port”.
Likewise, Mayor Julián Zacarías invited athletes and citizens in general to take care of these spaces and put them to good use, so that the facilities are preserved and available to all.
