Several people, most of them parents, marched from the Remate of Paseo de Montejo to the Monumento a la Patria in protest against the new textbooks, whose content they reject because they consider that they have an ideological charge and were made without complying with the procedures established the Education Law.

The slogan of the protest, turned into a hashtag, was #ConLosNiñosNo (notwiththechildren), it was read on banners carried by the protesters, which promote “education without indoctrination, lies, or ideologies.”

The march in defense of education brought together just over 100 people, and it was replicated in 33 cities in the country. More than 55 civil society organizations joined the protest.

In Yucatan, the groups Conciencia y Derechos Humanos, Caridad Política, Sociedad Independiente Yucatán and Uniendo Caminos México led the march against the new textbooks and the “Nueva Escuale Mexicana (New Mexican School).

At the Monumento a la Patria, they set tables where they invited to sign in rejection of the so-called New Mexican School, a precept under which the new textbooks were prepared, which they consider violate the principles of the family and universal values.

“Don’t mess with my children, I educate them”, “School without ideologies and without indoctrination”, “We want technology, not ideology”, “We want books to think about, not to ideologize”, “Not with children”, “We want useful books, not made for useless people” were some phrases that were heard during the march.

Ricardo Mendoza, coordinator of Uniendo Caminos México and who led the demonstration, gave a message when the Monument to the Homeland arrived to reiterate the rejection of the textbooks that they want to impose.

He emphasized that these books are just the tip of the iceberg of everything they intend to do to the detriment of children and students with the New Mexican School, which is why they are strongly opposed to that educational model.

He affirmed that they demand a revision of the contents of the textbooks that is in charge of true specialists.
