This Wednesday, August 30th, 10 fully electric vehicles were officially handed over to the Municipal Police Department of Mérida. These vehicles are part of the new fleet of 21 units for various departments of the Municipality of Mérida.

The purchase of these 10 electric patrol cars represented an investment of nearly nine million pesos, marking a historic moment for the department. It stands as one of the largest investments made to acquire vehicles.

Mario Arturo Romero Escalante, the Commander and Director of the Municipal Police, celebrated this significant step forward in the department’s efforts. He noted that it marked a crucial move toward enhancing security measures while contributing to mobility.

The total investment for these 21 vehicles amounted to 44.62 million pesos. This investment was distributed among the Public Services Department, Directorate of Governance, and the Municipal Police. Besides the patrol cars, the acquisitions include:

  • Two street sweepers
  • One desilting machine
  • Five compacting garbage collection trucks for Municipal Services
  • Two van-type trucks for Circuit Link
  • One bus for Circuit Adventure

Mayor Renán Barrera Concha mentioned that this investment was necessary due to the wear and tear on several old units, leading to the need to purchase new vehicles periodically, as was the case in this instance.
