A woman from Mérida and her husband ended up in the hospital after suffering an accident in the southern part of the city, where the woman was run over by her own vehicle when she jumped out of it while it was in motion.
The incident occurred at the intersection of streets 141 with 44 and 46-A in the San José Tecoh neighborhood, as a couple was traveling in a Mazda 5.
The vehicle was being driven by an elderly man, who, upon reaching street 141, lost control of the car due to a drop in blood pressure. This caused his vision to blur, leading to a loss of control.
In response to this situation, the man’s wife became desperate and decided to open the car door and jump out while the vehicle was moving, fearing a collision. However, upon landing, the car’s wheels ran over her left knee.
Finally, the vehicle came to a stop after mounting the curb and crashing into a small tree in front of a building.
A unit from the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) arrived at the scene as it was driving in the opposite direction of the Mazda at the time of the accident. They requested assistance from paramedics from the same department. Ambulances Y-44 and Y-53 arrived at the scene to attend to the injured couple.
The driver of the vehicle was stabilized, and the woman was treated for her injury before both were taken to a hospital.
