The Mérida City Council announced that the En Bici “Bike On” program will extend its free mode until September 30th of this year. The intention is to help the citizens’ economy, promote healthy habits among the population, and contribute to the environment.

Likewise, it was revealed that starting in September and until December, 300 new bicycles will be added gradually. Soon, this program will also be offered in Ciudad Caucel.

Since its launch in May, a total of 58,372 people have used this service, covering 97,999 kilometers in 61,145 trips. Of the users, 54.3% are aged 14 to 28, followed by 35% aged 29 to 46, 8.4% aged 47 to 58, and 2.2% aged 59 to 77.

An important fact is that 65.2% of users are men and 34.1% are women. Regarding the experience, the Mayor mentioned that 80.2% of users rate the program as good and excellent since it has helped them save money when commuting to school, work, or running errands.

He added that 63.2% of users use the service two to three times a week, while 25.8% use it three to six times, and 11% use it daily.

To ensure users have all the necessary protective measures when enjoying the benefits of the “Bike On” program, the City of Mérida developed a QR digital scheme to monitor the 300 units in the 53 stations throughout the city.

The Mayor indicated that this measure is part of the public policies aimed at providing economic and environmentally friendly alternatives to the population, and more people will have this option for commuting or enjoying the city.

Barrera Concha emphasized that with the “Bike On” program, Mérida is moving toward new multimodal mobility trends, offering a range of alternatives to public transport users to reduce travel time between points.
