Eclipse brings science and culture together in Campeche

The Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), the Institute of Art and Culture of Campeche (Icaecam), and members of the Campeche Eclipse Committee invited to witness the annular eclipse that will occur on October 14 in the archaeological zone of Edzná, and enjoy the cultural program that will be held from the 12th to the 15th of the same month.

In a press conference headed by the heads of Sectur, Mauricio Arceo Piña; Icaecam, Esteban Hinojosa Rebolledo; the representative of the State Council for Scientific Research and Technological Development (Coesicydet), Marina Rojas Aguilar, and the Eclipse Committee, Alba Aurelia Cruz Rodríguez, gave details of the event, which will be called “Annular Solar Eclipse”, and you can see the next October 14, starting at 9:45 a.m., in that archaeological zone.

Arceo Piña expressed his pleasure for the great acceptance that the organization of the event has had, to the extent that some hotels have already closed their reservations in days prior to the eclipse, which will only be seen in some parts of the Republic, and Campeche is one of them.

Cruz Rodríguez, from the Campeche Eclipse Committee, provided details of the astronomical phenomenon that the people of Campeche can enjoy. “We have worked on this phenomenon for more than a year by academics, researchers and scientists, and we have trained personnel from the Ministry of Education (Seduc) to help sighting without complications.”

The specialist stressed that not everyone will be able to go to Edzná, because there is obviously a tourist interest, but there will be alternative scientific observation points, and they will also work with Seduc to offer free access sites, where the eclipse can be seen safely.

Meanwhile, Hinojosa Rebolledo, from Icaecam, detailed the realization of the “Festival of the Sun” from October 12 to 15, which contemplates for October 12, the Magna Vaquería Peninsular, at 7 p.m. in the main park.

On October 13th there will be the concert-conference “Science and music”, at 6 p.m., at the “Francisco de Paula Toro” City Theater. The same day and venue, but at 8 p.m., the International Cervantino Festival will present Jhanu, Indian music.

Also, from 10 p.m. on the 13th, until 6 a.m. on the 14th, there will be a display of sacred pre-Hispanic rituals.

On Saturday the 14th, from 10 a.m. 12 pm the observation of the eclipse will take place in Edzná. At 5:30 p.m., at Fuentes Marinas Poesía del Mar, on the city’s boardwalk, there will be a concert to say goodbye to the sun with pre-Hispanic music and Lupita Herrera y “La Pachanga”.
