There are already two rural tourism projects ready to be presented to the cruise lines that arrive to Progreso and it is expected that they will be approved no later than November. The aim is to attract tourists who arrive on cruise ships to Mérida, mainly to the communities of the north in the first stage.

The director of Economic Development and Tourism of Mérida, José Luis Martínez Semerena, said that this is the product of the talks he had in Florida with cruise companies as part of the internationalization convoy organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“We are working hand in hand with Circulo 47, which is the program that attends communities and rural producers. There are already two projects ready to be launched. One is in a northern community and is for hiking and routes. The other is for cenotes, some are in the south of Mérida, others in the north. The objective is that whoever seeks this experience can enjoy it in Mérida”.

He indicated that these projects are ready and will be presented to the cruise lines for approval and to start executing them. It is expected that they will answer between October and November.

He stressed that the objective with this strategy is to increase the flow of cruise tourism in Mérida.
