Ciudad Caucel urgently needs a pedestrian bridge at the subdivision’s entrance

Due to the traffic insecurity it poses for pedestrians in Ciudad Caucel, at the main entrance to this vast housing development, residents and workers from the western area of Mérida are organizing to request authorities to construct a bridge that would assist them in crossing the avenue.

Residents of this residential zone noted that at the fraccionamiento entrance, there are businesses and a supermarket that are visited daily by thousands of people who either shop or work in those places.

However, to move from one side to the other, pedestrians face a three-lane avenue in each direction, without a pedestrian crosswalk, yellow markings, and with a median less than a meter wide.

A person interviewed at this hazardous crossing explained that it’s the main entry and exit point for the residents of over 40,000 houses in the housing development.

In the west-to-east direction, vehicles come at high speeds in a straight line for nearly a kilometer, while those traveling in the opposite direction enter from the peripheral ring road at high speeds to merge onto the same road.
