Valladolid was the scene of several Mayan rebellions against the Spanish, and also of important events of the Mexican Independence and Revolution.

Valladolid has a tropical climate, with high temperatures throughout the year. The hottest month is May, with an average temperature of 28.3 °C, and the coldest month is January, with an average of 22.9 °C. It is recommended to visit Valladolid between November and May, when the weather is more pleasant and there is less humidity.

Among the main attractions of Valladolid are:

  • The Convent of San Bernardino de Siena, an impressive Franciscan construction from the 16th century that houses a museum and a botanical garden.
  • The Cathedral of San Servacio, an elegant baroque church that is located in the historic center of the city, in front of the Francisco Cantón Rosado Park.
  • The Cenote Zací, a natural wonder that is located within the city. It is a large natural pool of crystal clear water surrounded by vegetation and stalactites.
  • The San Roque Museum, an old colonial hospital that exhibits archaeological and artistic pieces related to the history and culture of Valladolid.
  • La Calzada de los Frailes, a picturesque cobbled street that connects the center with the convent. It is full of colonial houses, shops, cafes and galleries.

In addition, Valladolid is an excellent starting point to explore other nearby sites, such as Chichén Itzá, Ek Balam, Río Lagartos and Las Coloradas.
