Twitter, Elon Musk’s technology company, would sue Meta, Mark Zuckerberg’s company, following the launch of the new social network Threads, which aims to be its rival.
In a letter written by Alex Spiro, Musk’s lawyer, Meta’s team is accused of creating the new app because some of its employees are former Twitter employees who have access to trade secrets:
“Over the past year, Meta has hired dozens of former Twitter employees, knowing that these employees previously worked at the company.”
The document shared with US media states that “Meta deliberately assigned these employees to develop the ‘Threads’ application, a Meta imitator, within a matter of months, with the specific intention of using Twitter’s trade secrets and other intellectual property to accelerate the development of Meta’s competing application, in violation of state and federal laws, as well as ongoing employee obligations to Twitter.”
The lawyer stated that “Twitter intends to strictly enforce its intellectual property rights and demands that Meta take immediate action to stop using any of Twitter’s trade secrets or other highly confidential information.”
He warned that the company “reserves all rights, including, among others, the right to seek civil remedies and injunctions without notice to prevent Meta from retaining, disclosing, or further using its intellectual property.”
