As part of the preparations to receive approximately 2 million vacationers expected to visit Progreso during July and August this year, municipal authorities led by Mayor Julián Zacarías Curi have launched the Summer Operation 2023, a strategy aimed at ensuring the cleanliness and security of this popular tourist destination.
With the start of this operation, the Progreso City Council invites vacationers to enjoy all the attractions offered by the port and provides them with some recommendations to take into account the ecological and urban context they will find in the municipality.
In this regard, it is of utmost importance to prioritize respect and care for the various species that inhabit the area, especially in the case of sea turtles, as they are in nesting season.
Additionally, all pet owners are urged to keep their pets on a leash at all times to prevent them from causing any harm to other pedestrians and marine fauna. And, of course, to properly dispose of the garbage generated during their visit to the beach.
Furthermore, it is necessary to exercise caution when traveling through the city center as there are some changes in the roadways due to the construction of an underpass. The specific changes to be considered include three streets: Street 82, which will remain closed between 31 and 33, as well as between 33 and 35. Likewise, Street 86, which normally has one-way traffic, now has two-way traffic. And as a third modification, Street 27 has changed direction, previously going from Yucalpetén to Chicxulub, and now it is reversed, going from Chicxulub to Yucalpetén.
It should be noted that various municipal departments are participating in this summer operation. In addition to them, there is collaboration with the State Public Security Secretariat, the National Guard, the XIII Naval Zone, the Red Cross, and the National Commission of Emergencies and Civil Protection of Yucatán. With this team of professionals, involving a total of 700 personnel, Progreso is ready to offer quality public services to the local population and welcome all vacationers with open arms.
The Progreso City Council provides the following contact numbers for residents and visitors of the port: Municipal Police: 969 935 00 26, Ecological Police: 969-103-62-86, and Prolimpia: 9691036494.
