Continuing with the work plan of the State Government to position Yucatan as one of the best destinations in Mexico, the Secretariat of Tourism Development of the State (Sefotur) provided training courses and diplomas in various municipalities of Yucatan during the month of June. The aim was to provide the necessary tools to the tourism sector to offer better service to all visitors.

Among the diplomas and courses offered were the training for specialized tour guides in nature tourism with a specific focus on environmental interpretation (NOM-09-TUR-2002) in the localities of Homún and Chuburná Puerto, provided by CENLATUR.

There was also the “Hospitality is Found in Diversity” diploma (part of the LGBTQ+ segment certification) held at the FUTV taxi facilities and the Mérida International Airport, delivered by QUEER Destinations.

Training on Hygiene Practices for Food, Beverages, or Dietary Supplements according to NOM-251-SSA1-2009 was provided in Río Lagartos and San Felipe, as well as Customer Service and Attention to Diners in Izamal and Maní.

Additionally, there were courses on Tourist Guide Updates: Efficiency in Touristic Routes in Sisal, and Innovation in Nature Tourism (update for tourist guides) in Las Coloradas. The latter course was carried out in coordination with the City Council of Río Lagartos.

First Aid and CPR courses were given to 32 individuals at the San Ignacio Cenote and in Homún, while a virtual course on Sales Planning and Strategy was attended by 83 people. A Strategies for Service course titled “Multiply Your Sales” was conducted in person in Tekax. Furthermore, a Design Thinking Methodology course (Redesign of Tourism Services) was offered to 43 people at the CANACO Mérida facilities and in Valladolid in coordination with the City Council.

An Effective Communication in Group Management course (update for tourist guides) was added in Tekax, and a course on Room and Area Cleaning for Accommodation, with 30 participants, was held in Valladolid in response to the request of the Hotel Association in the area.

In the Promotion and Specialized Trade Fairs department, a virtual training was provided on June 14th and 15th to 319 agencies across Mexico. The purpose was to inform them about various activities that can be carried out in each region of Yucatan for this summer. Three presentations on the theme “Summer in Yucatan” were directed to national travel agencies, encouraging them to include Yucatan in their sales catalog and promote it as a tourist destination to increase sales.

Finally, in order to increase the influx of domestic visitors to Yucatan, from June 15th to 18th, the state participated in “Yucatan Expone” in Puebla once again. Wholesale travel agencies had the opportunity to offer receptive tourism packages. The goal was to enhance the presence of the “Yucatan” brand as an attractive and memorable tourist destination through high-impact below-the-line activations. Julia Tours, represented by Turquesa Tours, and El Corte Inglés were the participating agencies in “Yucatan Expone” Puebla, attending to over 800 people.
